In 2014, Jennifer and Derek Bell, along with several like-minded families, partnered to launch a local branch of a national homeschool co-op. Their goal was simple but profound: to create a vibrant, Christ-centered learning community where their children could grow both academically and relationally. Jennifer took a leadership role early on, helping guide the program through its formative years.

However, over time, the increasing demands and control from the national organization began to conflict with the needs and values of the local community. The structure that once provided support became a source of constraint. Sensing the need for greater freedom and a more sustainable model, Jennifer led the charge—alongside a committed group of families—to launch an independent, board-led tutorial that would reflect their vision more fully.

That vision became Haven Christian Academy.

Jennifer’s passion for launching Haven was deeply personal. She wanted her three children to have more than just academic instruction—she wanted them to experience the richness of learning within a life-giving community. What began as a small, faith-driven endeavor has since grown into a thriving homeschool tutorial with over 80 families, and this year, Jennifer’s two oldest children will graduate from Haven—proof of a vision fulfilled.

As the founding and current Executive Director, Jennifer has walked the road of leadership with humility, wisdom, and resilience. She has learned what works—and what doesn’t. Her journey has equipped her to coach other families and leaders with hard-earned insight and deep compassion, helping them build thriving homeschool environments rooted in faith, freedom, and community.
